Weekly Review - A Lame One

So I'm sick. Sore throat, nasty headache, sneezing, yucky sick. :(

So that's kind of put posting on my back burner the past few days. Hopefully I feel better soon and when I do I've got a couple more reviews and giveaways for everyone.

The past week was ok from what I can remember (I've got that foggy memory thing going on currently). The exciting news was Rosemary got her second tooth! Other than that it was filled with the usual running around, but add me not feeling well since Thursday to that.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Hopefully I'll be feeling better soon and can add a real post. Sorry for the lame weekly review. :(

Oh, and we'll add my Sacrificing Saturday post into this as well. No cheating this week. Only a day or two left and then I can finally use my phone in the car again! I've already come up with a great strategy for quitting swearing. That starts on Tuesday (I think) so wish me luck on that! I'm hoping I can get my husband to quit too even though he doesn't swear nearly as much as I do. I'll post more about the quitting swearing next weekend when I'm feeling better.

Sacrificing Saturdays

Checking in for my weekly update on Sacrificing Saturdays.

I've made it one more week with no cell phone in the car! It's still extremely tempting to use the phone in the car and I've come to admit to myself this will always be a challenge I think.

Only one more full week and then on the 17th it's on to something else challenging. I'm going to be so relieved to not have to get out of my car every time I want to call or text someone - even as a passenger. I feel pretty silly sometimes... I still plan to continue not using the phone while I'm driving, but as a passenger, I think I'll be OK with using the phone again!

What did people do before cell phones? :)

Up next is going to be giving up swearing, I think... That will be so hard for me, I've got the worst potty mouth!

Wish me luck for my last full week!

Sacrificing Saturdays

For all my new followers, check here to see what Sacrificing Saturdays is all about.

So another week down of no cell phone use in the car and I'm sad to say I didn't make it all week.

It was for the stupidest thing ever too. I didn't even need to use the phone, it was reflex!

On Wednesdays we have a parent/baby group we go to and we get off the express way right by my husbands work. On the way home before I got onto the express way I decided to stop and see if he was available to come out and say hi. I was good and even got out of the car to call. No answer. So I get back in the car and am driving on my way home when he called back.

Instinctively I answered the phone when he called back. Whoops. As soon as I said hello I KNEW that I wasn't supposed to be doing it.

So I cheated this once. I'm bummed, but I'm glad that I didn't start doing it all the time or anything. It was just that once, so hopefully it won't happen again.

THIS is why I have to hide my phone in the car! It's just too easy to answer when it's right next to me in the middle console.

Hopefully this week I won't cheat again!

Sacrificing Saturdays

So I made it through another week with no cell phone use in the car!

I'll tell you, it's not getting easier. I almost cheat every other day it seems.

Last night I was THIS close to texting a friend while I was in the car. We were on our way home from my husband's work party and I was thinking about meeting a girl friend up for a drink since she was having a rough day. I didn't really want to wait the half hour car ride to see if she was still up for it since it was already 10:30. I even asked my husband if it was OK if I cheat just this once since I wasn't driving!

Well, I didn't and I'm so glad! It really is so convenient to call people and text on your way places. I can't wait for this one to be up!

I'm going to carry on the not using the phone while I drive, but I'm SO going back to texting and calling while I'm in the passenger seat. :)

Oprah's No Phone Zone Pledge

In honor of my Sacrificing Saturdays and giving up the phone in the car, I've signed this No Phone Zone pledge. You should too! It's really dangerous to text and chat in the car and by quitting, you honestly do save lives!

Thanks to Sx3 in SC for finding it! She has first hand knowledge of how dangerous it really is, so please sign it today.

Sacrificing Saturdays

I made it through my first week without using my phone in the car! It was a bit rough, but I didn't cheat at all. I have found it easier when I hide my phone while in the car. It's either in my purse or diaper bags instead of where it was usually before, in the cup holder.

I notice I turn to go for it several times throughout car rides, so I'm glad it's not right next to me just in case I forget. I was actually close to cheating today twice. Once on my way home to tell my husband to get ready a little early for a wedding we had. Again on the way to the wedding when I wanted to meet up with a few friends. Neither time did I cave even though I really wanted too.

It's so hard to fight that urge to give the simple phone call to talk with people! Wish me luck on week two!

Sacrificing Saturdays

Is Lent really over? Yeah, but I came up with an idea for me on Tuesday to keep it going... sort of. Sacrifice Saturday! (I didn't actually decide then to name it this, I just thought to keep giving up unnecessary stuff in my life.)

This year, I gave up chocolate for Lent. It was really, really hard for me to do this. I should start by saying I was never the biggest chocolate fan. Ever. And then I got pregnant. Oh My God was it good! Even after I gave birth in October, my love for chocolate continued. How was I ever going to lose the weight with my love affair with chocolate raging on?

Lent. Lent was my solution. Not only was I going to be a good Catholic girl and give up something I loved, but I was also going to lose weight! Well, maybe.

So Lent arrived and I gave up my love chocolate. Man, did it go by slow! I am so proud to say I didn't really cheat. I once had vanilla ice cream that had a tiny bit of chocolate in it, but I had to have that ice cream or something bad would have happened. So I made it through Lent and I was so pumped I followed through with my goal of no chocolate. I felt great!

Now here's the thing. After Easter, I felt kind of like I was missing something. As stupid as this sounds, I missed giving up chocolate. I suppose since I'm a stay at home Mom now, I actually like having a challenge outside of taking care of Rosemary. Does that sound silly? Who knows, but I missed it.

Well, this week I decided to do something about it. I've decided to continue on with giving something up every 40 days. I figure I can choose things that I are either unhealthy or take up too much of my time and will be good for me to give up for a while.

First up, using the phone in the car. It's been since Thursday, and man is it hard! I don't really have long conversations on the road, but I check my phone ALL. THE. TIME. Seriously, all the time! I knew it was bad before, but now that I don't use it at all, I really notice it. I check my email, all the time. I make short calls to people when I remember random things I need to do, all the time. I play on the phone when I'm a passenger, all the time.

So now, it's over! No more short calls, no more email or text, no more games even as a passenger! Wish me luck! It's been three days, 37 to go!

Next time, I'm thinking swearing (I swear like a sailor). Any other ideas? Maybe one day I can do facebook. Maybe.
