It's technically my Mother's Day present, my Birthday present (Nov 22nd) and everything in between present. :)
It's by far the most expensive toy I've ever purchased and I'm still a little nervous about actually going through with it.
I love it though! I really hope I'm able to take a class soon so I'm able to learn more about it.
Why I'm really telling all of you (besides for bragging/excitement purposes) is to ask for any tips, websites, books, etc you know about for beginners. Any and all help is welcome!
I ended up getting the Canon Xsi with a 50mm lens if you were interested.
Woo hoo for new toys!! I am such a lucky Mom. Thanks J and Rosemary! I love it!
I figure I should add a few of my first photos just for fun. It's on auto mode for now as I have NO idea what I'm doing on manual yet. It's so overwhelming all there is to learn! Please remember I also have no idea how to edit or anything at this point, so these are auto adjusted for now.
For more pictures from yesterday and today check out my 365 blog.
It's amazing how I can already see the difference in the quality of the photos!
Oh, and if I wasn't posting enough pictures before, expect A LOT more photos now that I have my new camera! :) Hopefully they'll start to get better over time!
Looks great so far! I really need to get myself a big girl camera!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about the book 'Understanding Exposure' although I've never read it myself. Could be a good start.
Awesome new toy! Even on auto, the photos look great. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLooking good!! I LOVE cannons!! I have one also, and digital is great! We are taking like 1000 pictures a month!
ReplyDeleteI have that camera and I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome camera!! I have the Xti and I absolutely love it. Best b-day present ever ;) Enjoy your new toy!
ReplyDelete*sigh* Doesn't a DSLR make a world of difference? Its like great photos suddenly start falling out of your camera!
ReplyDeleteAs an also-DSLR-newbie (got my Nikon D90 in February), the two websites I find myself going back to for photography help are:
http://digital-photography-school.com/
and
http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/
Lots of great tips on both sites! Take care!
hi- found you over on picket fences!
ReplyDeletejealous. that's all i can say. i am so jealous. this is the camera i have been eyeing, but like you, am too nervous to go through with buying it. but the pics are great!
I'm so jealous! Love the pics. So bright and crisp.
ReplyDeleteMy B day is Nov 28! I have no idea what I'm doing with my SLR either! Trying to learn!

ReplyDeleteYay! There are so many things you can do with a DSLR. I LOVE Mine. Congrats on finally getting your Mother's Day gift, Birthday and Christmas gift. LOL
ReplyDeleteThe settings can be overwhelming at first. Take one step at a time and you'll get it eventually. Just a tip (at least with my Canon 40D) the manual doesn't tell you anything useful as to why to use different settings, just how to change them. You're better off doing online research or getting a book from the bookstore on it.
I'm a photography addict. The 5D is always attached to the hip... err.. shoulder. This site gives some of the basics. The camera manual is also very important!

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful tips and comments!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I get a chance to start learning soon!
Fingers crossed Rosemary lets me. Yeah right!
Maybe by this time next year... ;)
I know I'm a little late, but congrats!!!! I'm so excited (and slightly jealous) for you! The pictures really do look great and you'll be a pro in no time! Seriously, take as many pictures of R as you need... we love seeing her beautiful face :)
